The Scholars Pro Musica Chamber Choir is excited to announce its 2018 Season.

2018 is very much a year of collaboration as the choir teams up with orchestras for each concert.

Lost & Found

15 April - Baycourt Addison Theatre, Tauranga

The Scholars are truly honoured to have been invited to be a part of a modern-day premiere of works by Gustav Holst recently discovered here in Tauranga.  The choir joins the Bay of Plenty Sinfonia in concert to perform choral works by Holst, Parry, and Elgar.  Choral music of the late-Victorian and early-Edwardian era is magnificently grand and fantastically dignified.  The programme includes Holst's' "Ode on a Grecian Urn" (from the Choral Symphony), Parry's magnificent anthem for double-choir, "Blest Pair of Sirens" (performed at the wedding of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge), as well as a choral arrangement of Elgar's stirring "Nimrod" from the Enigma Variations.

Tickets on sale now at Ticketek or through the Baycourt Box Office.

Crowns & Kings

25 August - St. Mary's Immaculate Church, Tauranga

The Scholars bring back NZBarok, New Zealand's professional baroque ensemble, for a performance of Handel's "Dixit Dominus" and "Coronation Anthems".  These two works book end the great baroque master's career.  Written in 1707, by Handel when still a student in Italy, the Dixit Dominus is full of the energy, creativity, and vision of the young composer.  By contrast, the "Coronation Anthems" show the seasoned composer's gift for grand ceremonial music for stately occasions.  Written for the Coronation of George II, these anthems constitute Handel's first royal commission in England.  So popular is the first anthem, "Zadok the Priest" that it has been performed at the coronation of every British monarch since its composition.

Messiah

24 November - St. Mary's Immaculate Church, Tauranga

Now an annual tradition, the Scholars and NZBarok present their much-anticipated performance of this seasonal favourite.  This baroque-inspired performance seeks to recreate Handel's original sound for small chamber choir and chamber orchestra and will feature a fantastic line up of New Zealand soloists.  Mr. Handel makes his annual appearance to conduct the Scholars and NZBarok.
